At last we have reached the final of Scotlands Home of the Year. An occasionally painful journey – I know I am not the only person to have been arguing with the tele during the last few weeks. There was a worthy winner: I have already covered Lesley’s home, the White House in an earlier post. It seemed to be a unanimous choice for everyone involved. A truly contemporary home with subtle historic twists at every turn, I am convinced the exterior from the sea hints at an art deco cruise liner.
A close runner up belongs to a good friend of mine, Rachel Henderson, and I know that some viewers were puzzled as to why such a modest home should hold its own against such lavish competition. So many entrants had a vision that they were able to achieve on an ambitious budget in a magical location and it was hard to understand why the judges kept coming back to this little gem on a 1960s estate in a seaside town in Fife. Well that is because these viewers have not had the privilege of meeting Rachel and seeing her dazzling home up close. From the moment you arrive you are enchanted. Enter, your mood lifts and the fun starts. The house is sunny and bright and colourful and patterned – think Love Hearts, ice cream sundaes, spring flowers and greenery. What is so special about it is that it is in a place where many of us could afford to live, they have not done that much to it either, no eye-watering budgets here, thank you.Instead, Rachel has made it special with her talent and creativity. She has transformed an ordinary home into something magical, on a minuscule budget actually and created a house that is truly unique. We could all do this if we had the eye. The fact is though, we don’t, which is why, I would, without hesitation suggest hiring her to help you. On her website you will find a wonderful variety of reasonably priced interior design packages to suit every budget that will help you sort your shizzle. Rachel can help you remotely or drop by.
Bye bye bland, safe, boring and expensive… Hello to a home that is good enough to eat with money left over for a fabulous holiday to celebrate once it is all finished!
