Continuing with my theme of travel, but back in Scotland now, I thought I would cover a summer destination in the gorgeous seaside village of Elie on the East Neuk of Fife.
A truly stunning property and very much a ‘home from home’, suitable for an extended family or a large group of friends. It was shot by Doug and styled by a good friend of the owners, Mairi MacDonald, for a recent issue of House & Garden.
A fun day for all, but stressful, because it is right on the water’s edge, so the light had to be perfect – a haar would have been hopeless and too much sun would have been very severe on the clean lines and minimal styling that make this home so pleasing.
Designed by Will Tunnell Architecture, the design is uncompromising in both style and functionality. The owners feel a tremendous sense of contentment while they are there, despite the simplicity of the design there is nothing lacking in the house.
In fact it is the lack of formality that makes the spaces so homely, an unexpected outcome in the chipboard lined attic rooms.
All the bedrooms are simply decorated, after all, when you are waking up to a view like this, you don’t really need any further distractions – I am not sure I would ever get up!
Elie is a fun place to visit, nowhere more glorious on a sunny day, but this house is so welcoming and sheltered from the elements, that whatever the weather you will enjoy your stay. The vistas are as stunning from the inside as the outside.
