Well, we really over-egged it this year – the 16th February marked 24 years – no big deal I know, but we received a tsunami of gifts and invitations. Crystalski invited us to return to the village in the Dolomites where we had our honeymoon, read about it here. Our family invited us to lunch and afterwards we were able to disappear off to the beautiful Radisson Collection Hotel on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, where we were invited to sample one of their artists suites. Here I am arriving – looking very excited I know. You do have to jolly up after 24 years!Doug warming his hands in front of the fire while I checked in.You can see hints of the beautiful art collection that the hotel has invested in, behind Douglas making it a unique destination. Our suite has been designed by Edinburgh based artist, Hatti Pattison, a dear friend and an utter inspiration. As you can see below, her work translates beautifully into fabric. She was brought up in Fife and gathered inspiration during her childhood from the beautiful coastline. Her work is abstract, but often redolent of the seaside and bird life. The wing chair below and the cushions and bed head are all upholstered in a Hatti Pattison seascape fabric.
The artists suites are on the top floor and the views are simply incredible – Edinburgh is such a stunning city – I feel so spoilt to have spent so much of my life here. The hotel asked Scotland’s most acclaimed artists and designers to tackle a penthouse suite each. The resulting Designer Suites have a contemporary yet unmistakably Scottish style, reflecting the vibrancy and character of Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside that you can clearly see on a good day throughout the spacious residence. The interiors are uniquely crafted with exceptional linens and impeccable attention to detail in each of the stunning spaces.Look carefully and you will see that the cushions in the lounge area are also all made up in fabric by Hatti, they have a different vibe to her cooler seascapes: her range is huge and her colours and patterns inspired by flowers and wildlife, birds and butterflies can get very intense.
Here is the sitting area of the suite –The restaurant is excellent and worth a visit even if you are not staying, there is a very informal brasserie that I personally often pop in to pre theatre during the festival! In the morning we were treated to an excellent breakfast. Our stay was magical, so restful, we did not want to leave!Thank you Radisson we will be back!
