Bathroom Trends

I had lots of lovely feedback and chat about my bathroom goals post – I was sharing my thoughts on my dream bathroom, where money was no object. I was talking about my ‘next house’ where magically the seller had installed a top of the range Philippe Starck bathroom. In this post I would like to talk more about what you can do with a more realistic budget.

Trends to take your bathroom to the next level

The bathroom is a vital area in a home obviously, with clear utilitarian functions, but it is also a place to relax, a space where you can unwind away from the hustle and bustle of the main house. Bathroom design is constantly evolving as manufacturers use the latest technology and materials to produce an array of bathroom products in a range of styles, from traditional fixtures to ultra-modern designs.

Here, bathroom specialists Bathroom Planet who I am delighted to collaborate with, have compiled some of the top bathroom trends to inspire you to create a bathroom that will stand out.

It is very likely that my ‘next house’ will have white suite and if not, I will probably install one. This seems to be a trend that is here to stay for a while. However, whether you are looking to update an existing bathroom or start from scratch, here are some ideas to get the creative juices flowing.

Using Bold colours

A great way to offset the almost ubiquitous white sanitary ware is to use bold colours. You might want to go dark, or use bright pops of pastels. Another possibility is to add a bit of shimmer with metallica colours  such as gold, copper and brass to specific areas is a great way of creating excitement.

Wallpaper has evolved over the past decade and is now available specially designed to stand up to the rigours of the bathroom. It is often a cheaper alternative to tiling and offers an array of designs not possible on tiles. A glass splash back in front of some delightful wallpaper above a sink or around a bath is a gorgeous solution.

Yep – that is wallpaper on the ceiling!

An obvious addition to the bathroom. Blowing the budget in a small area is a canny trick, or create a luxurious feel with an expanse of affordable white subway tiles, below.

Subway tiles

Statement floor tiles over underfloor heating is an unforgettable experience (yes, I do lead a very quiet life) or fabulous fun vinyl is mad, affordable and extremely practical.

Fixtures and Fittings

Opt for the unexpected – try round or oval mirrors for an elegant addition. Choose taps and mixers in an unpredictable style and finish too, so whether you are looking for something a bit more traditional or something sleek and modern, try pewter or brass in matte or polished finishes.

It was only a matter of time before technology made its way into the bathroom and we are starting to see more and more manufacturers using technology to save water, consume less energy and to make our bathrooms run more efficiently.

Whether it is smart showers that can be set up for different users, sensor activated toilet flushes or smart lighting options, the technology used in bathrooms is increasing and who knows what the future will bring.
